Anna-Maria Georgiou

Georgiou Anna-Maria was born in Ioannina, in January, 1980 and she was raised in Igoumenitsa. She studied composition with Joseph Papadatos and classical guitar with Dimitris Kasfikis.

She teaches classical guitar, introductory music courses and infantile music education, developing her own educational method based on material of her own as well as on the material of other composers. She has worked at music schools, private kindergartens and public schools, while she was also member of the Philharmonic of the Municipality of Igoumenitsa playing the lyre and the alto horn.

She has been preoccupied with the theatre as an amateur actress attending courses of theatrical education and participating in various performances. She has also taken part in Stratos Stasinos’ movie “Beyond the Lake”. In addition, she has taken singing lessons as well as modern and traditional dance lessons and tango.

Furthermore, she has attended seminars of classical guitar, theatre, philosophical and child psychology, as well as music pedagogy and teaching.

She writes articles in a local newspaper whereas her artistic activities round off with mask and wig construction, writing poetry, stories and brief fairy tales covering the needs of introductory music courses and infantile music education.

Her composing work is mostly characterized by atonality while sometimes she uses tropical scales and traditional music elements as well. The bulk of her work has obvious melodic patterns and she also uses various contemporary composing techniques.

Her poetry mainly refers to love and death, it has no rhyme and it is imbued with a dominant melancholy.
